Here’s an easy tutorial on setting up Etsy RSS feeds on Mozilla Thunderbird. By doing this, you can subscribe to RSS feeds such as the Etsy blog or your favorite shops. Subscribing to them via Thunderbird allows you view them much like you would an email. That way, anytime you check your e-mail, you can easily check to see if the blog or shops you subscribe to have been updated, without having to go directly to the Etsy website. It’s easy peasy.

The tutorial is in two simple sections. The first sections will explain how to create the RSS account and the second will explain how to subscribe to different feeds found throughout the site.

Creating an RSS Account

  1. Open up Thunderbird and go to File > New Account
  2. In the box that pops up, click “RSS News and Blogs” then hit next
  3. Enter the account name (I simply call mine “Etsy” so I can add the blog and shops to the same account). Hit next & then hit finish. The new account you just created should appear in the folders panel (to the left) in the main Thunderbird window.

Subscribing to an RSS Feed

  1. Click the account you just created. A screen should appear in the main window that has several options. Click “Manage subscriptions”
  2. Click “Add”. In the box that appears, fill in the feed URL, then hit “OK“. (For the blog, it’s http://blog.etsy.com/?feed=rss2. For a specific shop, go to the main shop page and a there should be a button in the lower right hand corner under the “page tools” section that says “RSS THIS SHOP”. You can find the URL there.) Please note: To paste the URL to the dialog box you must use your keyboard, as opposed to right clicking. Click the dialog box and then ‘CTRL + V’
  3. Depending on how many things it needs to import it should only take a few second for the it appear in the “RSS Subscriptions” box. Once it listed in the “RSS Subscription” box, just close it
  4. That’s it! You’re subscribed!

To check the feeds, just click the little plus sign ( + ) next to the account name. Once expanded, you will see the names of the different feeds you’re subscribed to. From there, you can view the different posts or listing. You can also sort by date, author, or title.
